Feb 22nd to 25th 10 to 28 deg. light breeze

Feb 22nd - The Philippine Mars flying boat was sold to Pima Air Museum from Coulson aviation in BC. It is being disassembled at Lake Pleasant north of Phoenix, then trucked down to Tuscon. We drove up to the lake to take a look see. Unfortunately we could not find it but the lake and area is beautiful. We passed some wild burrows with a baby. This is the best photo they allowed me to take.

Most of the lake is surrounded by a regional park. There are many areas around the lake for recreation. There was supposed to be a restaurant on one of the docks but we could not find it either. I think a long walk from the parking lot. Took some pictures, then headed off to find some lunch.

Putting restaurants in the GPS, it came up with Tennessee BBQ and bar in Anthem. A few miles north on Hwy 17. It was very good, I had a smoked brisket sandwich and Pat had Breaded Shrimp. Back to camp.

Feb. 23rd we drove to White Tank Regional Park. Another nice park, lots of trails and camping. We found a nice trail that lead to a waterfall when it rains. There was a cache close to the end of the trail and as a it was starting to get hot we headed back to the car.

Petroglyphs

Over looking Phoenix area.

Feb. 24th we got our truck back, took the rental car back and got ready to head west.
Feb. 25th we headed for Joshua Tree National Park BLM. I stopped a few times to check that all was as it should be and so far so good. The road to the BLM is off the park road. We have been here before, so we had an idea for where we wanted to be. We found the site that we were at last time but just over yonder, there looked like some sites that were a little farther away for the other campers. We soon found out why. There is a lot of sand here, unlike most of the other BLM sites we have been at. I tried to turn around sank out of sight. I managed to get it unstuck and promptly got stuck again. Unhitched the truck and  repositioned it on what looked like firmer ground. Pat walked down the trail to the power line road and thought we could make it out that way. There was no way we were going to be able turn around and go out the way we came in. It was all slightly uphill to go back the way we came. I said, this was no more than a trail. Once we got going, there was no stopping, so dodging bushes and large rocks, we made it to the Power line road. Getting onto the road was tricky. It was very narrow with a bit of a bank, then more loose sand. No going slow here, pounded around the corner our poor trailer jumped over the bank and onto the road, still right side up. So much for taking it easy on our new engine. We drove back to the main road and went to the site we had last time. I am sure we didn't need pictures to remember our folly but Pat took these. You must have been able to see the clouds of dust we were making from Indio.

Our truck was nice and clean, we will be looking for place to wash it today.

At least we found a nice quiet place to camp, away from all the noise of the city and RV park.

We are planning to stay here for a few days.

  1. Holy Moses! Your adventures just keep on coming. Don't know how you got out of that sand without a tow truck. I would have love to see the Petroglyph.
    Take care.
