Buckeye. Feb. 13th - 17th. 6 at night 22 daytime. rain one day, light winds.
Yesterday, Sunday, we left Bouse and headed for Florence to visit with Rex and John. Our plan was to go to 85 south to Gila Bend, then across to Florence.
When we turned down 85 toward Gila Bend, we heard a ticking noise. Sounded like a rock in the tire but it kept getting worse. I stopped and checked the oil, thinking it might be low and a lifter was making the sound. It was a bit low but I didn't think it should cause the noise. I did add some and it seemed better for a moment but persisted. There was a Ford dealer not far from where we were, so we elected to head that way. The Leaf Verde RV park is across form the ford dealer. We did not get far, it started making all kinds of horrible noises, I shut it off and we called a tow truck. Both the tow truck owner and his driver did not recommend the ford dealer, as they were small and had no diesel guys. They recommended a shop across the road from their shop.
We phoned Leaf Verde RV, $75.00 a night, and got a site for two days, not knowing what was up with the truck. The tow truck driver loaded the truck and towed the trailer to the RV park. He then took the truck back to his yard so the mechanic could look at it this morning.
Matt, the repair shop owner, phoned us at 6:45 this morning with the bad news. Catastrophic engine failure. Looks like a bearing went. Apparently, it is a known issue with these engines. Looks like an oil delivery fault to the bottom end of the engine. Great. After he had time to do an assessment and some options, we decided on a Ford long block replacement, with two years warranty. He will try to get it done by Friday but maybe not till next Wed.Good news bad news.
The good news is, the parts were ordered by eight thirty this morning and things are moving along. We have also extended our stay at the RV Park.
You might want to sit down for this.
The bad news is $20,000US plus for the repairs.
OK, now to find a rental car.

Holy ! That's terrible. You must be in shock.
